Description:
The Fraunhofer FOKUS indoor navigation system enables smartphone users to navigate inside buildings. Conventional GPS-based navigation on the smartphone, as known from road traffic, does not work in buildings due to the weak and inaccurate GPS signal.
The correct route is precisely indicated by means of an overview map or a directional arrow. Optional voice output (as with a car navigation system). For visually impaired and blind people, there is steering by means of vibration and clicking sounds, which guarantee highly precise guidance. There are warnings of stairs and danger zones.
The indoor navigation system also works offline. This makes it possible to find your way around underground car parks, for example, and the smartphone can be operated in flight mode.
