Areas of Application:
- restricted growth
- diastrophic dysplasia
- achondroplasia
- hypochondroplasia
Description:
Folding Brompton bicycles are converted for restricted growth people after individual consultation.
Children's bicycles are not suitable for restricted growth people in terms of proportions. In the case of small people, bicycles must fit even more precisely, because every centimeter too much or too little counts twice as a fault.
In the case of dysproportional restricted growth, e.g. achondroplasia or hypochondroplasia, a bicycle must be low and long, with high handlebars. Most important are the short pedal cranks, which should be about 1/5 of the inside leg length. These must be combined with an appropriately low bottom bracket, otherwise their advantage of mitigating the excessively narrow knee angle is lost.
Bicycles for short people are custom built with all the features. The tire size used is 12", 18" and 20" and 24". The wheel size is chosen so that the saddle is not lower than the mudguard of the rear wheel when properly adjusted.
When motorization of a bicycle is desired, velospeeder motors are installed. These friction roller motors, which run on the rim, weigh less than 2 kg extra with a medium battery and a range of 35 km.
