Brakes for wheelchairs

Brakes on the wheelchair and accessories for wheelchairs make it possible to lock a wheelchair when stationary and to reduce speed when driving.

Parking brakes are a necessary feature of wheelchairs. Driving brakes such as drum brakes, for example, are used instead of manual braking via the push rims. Special one-hand brakes allow both wheelchair tires to be braked with one hand. Brake lever extensions can be helpful if arm strength is reduced. Brakes for accompanying persons are operated by them via the push handles.
