Assistive Product CoNav Chair

Product Type:

Intelligent power wheelchair
Prototype

Description:

The robot-based wheelchair enables navigation in a complex environment. The vehicle accepts commands to change direction or speed, for example. However, with the help of adaptive control, it corrects commands independently if they do not fit into the environment. For example, it brakes if it is in a busy pedestrian zone and independently avoids obstacles.
The wheelchair can be controlled autonomously and manually. It is controlled via a joystick. The joystick has cameras, LiDAR, a laser-based distance measuring device that reliably detects obstacles, and an inertial measurement unit that coordinates the various movements.

Other:

The wheelchair was developed by researchers at the University of Michigan.
