Assistive Product Stimmbandsticker

Product Type:

Digital voice generator
Prototype

Description:

In the Department of Bioengineering at UCLA, an AI-supported throat sticker is being developed as a barely invasive speech aid. The polymer sticker is attached to the throat and, due to its elasticity, recognizes the movements of the laryngeal muscles through inductive copper coils. The resulting signals are transmitted to a processing actuator, where they are converted into speech using special algorithms. The sticker can only recognize speech when the lips move.

The research was funded by the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Office of Naval Research, American Heart Association, Brain and Behavior Research Foundation, UCLA Clinical and Translational Science Institute and the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering:
