Tracheostomy and laryngectomy tubes

A tracheostoma is a surgically created artificial airway in the throat, for example after a laryngectomy or in the case of serious swallowing disorders.

A tracheostomy tube keeps the entrance open. People with a tracheal opening that is too small or with a tendency towards inflammation or shrinkage in the area of the tracheostoma must wear such cannulas permanently.

Laryngectomy tubes keep the tracheostoma open in people with a laryngectomy.
