Two-piece ostomy appliance

The two-part ostomy appliance consists of an ostomy pouch and a separate skin protection plate. The skin protection plate remains attached to the skin for a longer period of time, while the pouches can be connected and removed using a locking ring.

Closed systems are suitable for smaller and solid excreta. These are mainly used by colostomy patients, as the stool they excrete is more solid. Closed bags usually have an activated charcoal filter through which all intestinal gases can escape without any odor.

Bags with a drainage opening are called "scraper bags" or "open systems". The bodily excretions collected in the bag are emptied through the drainage opening at the bottom of the collection bag. They are mainly used by people with ileostomies, as their stool is thinner. The bag can therefore be emptied without having to change the entire supply.
